Mark my words: the best-dressed guests of 2026 will be wearing this accessory that's sweeping Zara, Parfois, and specialized millinery brands

Original, flattering, and easy to combine (as long as you dare to wear head accessories). This is the pillbox hat - or 'pillbox' in its most iconic version - with which the most stylish girls elevate their guest looks.

Neither jeweled shoes nor XL earrings nor sculptural bags: the accessory that will truly transform our guest looks this 2026 are the pillbox hats; and, more specifically, the 'pillbox' made of natural fabrics. The 'BBC' (Weddings, Baptisms, Communions) season hasn't even officially started, but it seems that both Instagram and our favorite brands have already agreed to predict the success of this accessory that fashion experts have had on their radar for a couple of seasons. And it is that, although 'it girls' wear it even in their daily lives, everything indicates that it will be in the realm of guests where we will see the true 'boom' of the trend.

Its return is no coincidence. The first clue came last summer in the 'street style' of Copenhagen Fashion Week - the coolest and most influential in the international circuit - where trendsetters and editors began to wear these small hats made of natural materials with a handcrafted look integrated into relaxed but impeccable outfits. That image marked the beginning of a trend that has not stopped evolving and has developed especially in weddings, baptisms, and other special events, that is, in those types of occasions where we dare to step out of our stylistic comfort zone, take risks, and try accessories with which in another context we might feel disguised.

Thus, in autumn the pillbox hat became sophisticated with jewels, with chains, crystals, and shiny finishes that made it a nocturnal protagonist; and during winter it adopted more robust materials, such as wool or felt, reinforcing that elegant and slightly retro air that inevitably reminds us of Jackie Kennedy's style. Now, with the arrival of good weather and its usual commitments, the 'pillbox' returns to its essence and promises to burst into our wardrobes with fabrics like raffia, neutral tones, and artisanal finishes. The result? A light, flattering, and surprisingly versatile accessory.

It is ideal for both morning and evening celebrations and one of the undisputed trends of this season. It adds strength to the 'outfit', frames the face, and is very flattering.

How to combine pillbox hats for a wedding
The first thing you should know is that a pillbox hat is a small, close-fitting, brimless hat that conforms to the shape of the head; while a 'pillbox' is a specific and defined type of pillbox hat, usually cylindrical in shape, with straight sides and a flat top, structured silhouette, and certain rigidity.

Leaving theory aside, its success is due to its sophisticated and contemporary air, with the ability to elevate the look and provide that touch of "I know fashion" without being pretentious. In addition, they offer a more modern and less predictable alternative to the classic fascinators, headbands, and wide-brimmed hats that we have been using for important daytime occasions for years.

More advantages? It doesn't limit the hairstyle as much and looks great with an updo and also with loose hair, whether you have long hair or a 'bob' cut. "For evening weddings, pillbox hats work very well with sleek low updos or half-updos with controlled texture," says the expert. "My advice is to pay attention to the proportion and inclination; it's not simply placing it: the angle completely changes the expression," she insists. In this regard, Paula Beneytez, head of the Marcela & Co fascinator brand, adds: "I prefer to place it on the crown of the head, à la Jackie Kennedy, rather than centered as if it were a hat."

Paula agrees with this idea: "It can be worn in the same color as the outfit (but sometimes it's difficult to get the exact same shade) or opt for neutral-toned headpieces if the dress is striking, or choose a simple outfit and select a striking headpiece that becomes the protagonist of the look. But a key point is that the color of the headpiece should flatter the guest, rather than just match the outfit. Ultimately, many colors combine well with each other, but not as many flatter our face, skin tone, hair...", she reminds us. In this regard, the most requested 'pillbox' hats are those that maintain the natural color of raffia, which brings a lot of light to the face and, in addition, combines wonderfully with wedge espadrilles and basket bags, both ideal for completing guest looks during the warmer months.
