Glove protocol
Gloves for guests: protocol at weddings and events.
Gloves for wedding guests are a timeless accessory that adds distinction, elegance, and sophistication to any wedding or special event look. Although their use is optional, knowing the proper etiquette for gloves at weddings will help you wear them with style and confidence.
When to wear gloves to a wedding
1. They are especially appropriate for morning weddings and with short or cocktail dresses, although they also combine with long dresses at very formal events.
2. The length of the gloves depends on the sleeve length of the dress:
- Sleeveless or short-sleeved dress: long gloves that flatter the arm.
- French or long sleeves: short gloves or do without them.
Basic rules of glove protocol
1. When greeting by shaking hands, keep your gloves on.
2. If carrying a handbag, hold it while wearing gloves.
3. During the ceremony, they can be kept on; if they are removed, both are taken off at the same time, never just one.
4. Gloves must always be removed before receiving communion.
5. They are not used for eating or drinking. The correct way to store them is in your bag, place them on your lap, or leave them folded next to your plate.
6. To remove them, it should be done in a private place, using the other hand and never pulling with the mouth.
Formal gloves aren't essential, but they are an accessory that elevates an outfit, adds personality, and respects traditional wedding etiquette. Choosing the right gloves for your dress and event will make all the difference in your guest look.
